6. Do you take into account Leavers?

One thing small business owners often don’t take into account when they first start recruiting new employees is that even great people may choose to move on to pastures new within a few months or years — and you shouldn’t take it personally.

“We have seen it many times in the past, small companies especially recruit for culture when they have 5, 10 or 15 employees, however when the culture then changes dramatically as they grow to 100, 150 or 200 employees. The wants and needs of an employee who worked in the startup may not be met, alternately they may not be able to work in or with the new culture as the company evolves.

For these reasons, they may look for another small company and may not stay with you. ”
