According to a recent global research firm Synovate, consumers in most Latin American countries have more confidence in the future . The only exception was Italy which, like other G-8, showed a low consumer confidence. Consumers in Germany, Japan, Netherlands and the UK feel that things will remain the same in economic terms over the next six months, while those in Spain, Argentina , Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico believe in a much brighter future compared with the current situation. Among the G-8 countries, only Canada showed a positive overall index of confidence, according to the poll. Although it was noted that Canadian optimism could be very fragile, because its economy based on raw materials depends on the growth of U.S. and global recovery. The study was conducted between July and September to 11,000 people aged 16 to 65 years in Argentina , Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Serbia, Spain, UK and U.S. . Consumer confidence is an economic indicator that measures how optimistic consumers feel about the overall state of the economy and their personal financial situation. If confidence is higher, consumers are making more purchases, boosting economic growth. But if on the other hand is lower, consumers tend to save more than spend, which causes contractions in the economy.
